Meiling, “Welcome to Chicago! Congratulations to the film, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I love your performances in the trailer. So, what was the first reaction that you got, when you first got casted in the film that’s focusing on the Nazis family?”

Thomasin, “When I first read this script, immediately this is that kind of script glued to your hand, you can’t put it down, and it is something that I really really want to be a part of, because I know it’s going to be something special. So, when I had the part, I was just over joyed. I think I immediately went downstairs and talked to my grandma, was really really ecstatic. ”

Meiling, “Very nice, especially with the phenomenal cast, right? So to someone your age, World War II seems so far away, seems so distanced, how did you prepare for your role to be able to understand the script and the whole concept? ”

Thomasin,“With any role, I approach, you know I prepare I do my research, especially with this one, since it’s about World War II and the holocaust, I want to go into it, just feeling fully prepared, and feeling as confident in terms of knowing the facts and having the knowledges of possibly could. So immediately when I found out I got the role, I read the Diary of Anne Frank, about 4 other books with similar stories, and I used that modern-day tool to find out as much as I could. And the minute when I got to Prague, I was able to kind of. . .  Czechoslovakia was occupied by the Germans during the war, so I was able to walk around Prague, and learn so much about the Jewish history, and the background, and learn about that religion. I spent a lot of time in a synagogue, and the Jewish cemetery, and I spent a lot of time with a historian in the Jewish quarter. And she was able to fill in a lot of the gaps for me. I knew about the facts of the World War II, but I didn’t know what everyday life was like. I spent some time at Theresienstadt the concentration camp just outside of Prague. Some monstrous things happened. Just being there, and hearing about the different stories and the different things happened there. You just learn a lot by being there I think.”

Meiling, “That’s awesome, that sounds like a lot of crash courses. So how is that so important to tell this story through children’s eyes?”

Thomasin, “I think it’s always important to look at stories that have been told a lot of times from different points of view and through different lens, because it helps us to understand that part of our history, or that story in a different way. I think looking at this time of our history through a child’s eye, I think adults, the older generations that reminded how important their influence is, and how important it is to put goodness out in the world, into promote love and kindness rather than hate. So I think that’s one of the most important things through a ten-year-old’s eyes. ”
