在美国赫赫有名的伊桑·霍克(Ethan Hawke)在2018年6月7日晚荣幸获得了美国芝加哥Gene Siskel 影院中心的“文艺复兴终身演员奖”的奖杯。同时,他的荧屏好搭档文森特-多诺菲奥也出席参加活动,并和伊桑共同在台上和影迷们展开了 一系列讨论问答。

Meiling: I’ve studied about your previous interviews, I am very impressed about your film work. At what point of your life you just started realizing, about you are actually making films, acting in films with a mission?
Ethan Hawke: I don’t know, sometimes I feel like our life calls us, everybody would like to think that we have such agency of our lives, or control over them, I decided this, I decided that, in a lot of ways, opportunities present themselves, doors open, and I walk through, doors closed, and I didn’t. You know I have been following the river of my life to the best of my ability.

Meiling: About your recent film work “Blaze,” in your previous interviews, you were trying not to make it commercialized, more humanized… what is your take on that?
Ethan: I just follow what interested me, I am very interested in the parts. Everybody likes to celebrate success, and winning, but there are so many of us that defeat ourselves, and so many of us that rightfully allergic to what’s phony about what it takes to sell yourself, and search what it is authentic, what is the authenticity in a person, in each other, and that’s what is making “Blaze“ is about to me.
金美翎:“您之前有明确声明您编导的电影《布雷兹》不想带有太多商业性质,反而想更人性化一点,可以跟我们解释一下吗?”
伊桑:“我就专注吸引我眼球的,吸引我的就是每个角色不同的责任。每个人都想成功,很多人被挫折击败,但现在娱乐圈里的人费劲心力炒作的人大有人在,但在最后面对自己时却是两码事。实在人讲实在事,这就是我们《布雷兹》所宣传的宗旨。”
Meiling: Very nice, you have done so much about acting, and filming making, do you have any unaccomplished dreams in your film career?
Ethan: Jack Nicholson is like a hero to me, some of our greatest artists of our time… but my dreams are mine, I would worry if you say them, they will less likely be come true. You have to hold them. I have parts that I want to play. I feel better today, about my own relationship to my art than what I did when I was 20, and I would love it if that will be true at 60 and 80, that’s my goal or whatever, I can’t really know what that means to keep developing, but I hope that I can.
金美翎:“很好哇!您已经在影视界做了这么多了。那您还有没完成的梦想吗?”
伊桑:“杰克-尼克尔森是我最大的偶像,也是史上最伟大的艺术家之一。然而,我的梦想是我自己的。我害怕如果我说出来就很难实现了,保密好些。我有很多角色还想去尝试啊。当然,比起我20岁,我更想在我60岁80岁时继续向前走。每个人的人生之路都是个惊喜,多去尝试,说不一定哪天机会就来了。
Meiling: You and Ethan have been long time on screen co-stars and friends, (yeah, it has been 20 years,) I know right, can you tell me the top three of your most memorable co-star acting moments? I need to hear all the juicy details… ha-ha!
Vincent D’Onofrio:When we first met, we did the film called The Newton Boys (1998), we were both younger, and he was the only other goof ball on set. We were attracted to each other immediately, and we hung out with each other constantly for the whole shoot, we stayed in the same hotels, on the same floor, we did everything together for the whole time. I think the Newton Boys will always be that. And then we have been stuck in situations in films before where you can only do the scene if you are really great friends. We have done some big scenes that only shot in an hour, just because we know each other so well. Those kinds of things stick out to me the most, because movie sets take so long to get done. But if you have friend with you, you just rip right through it, and it’s great.
金美翎:“您和伊桑这么多年一直都是荧屏好搭档。” (文森特:是啊,一晃20年了) 是啊!您能在最短时间内想出您最喜欢的和伊桑合作过的情节吗?需要一点爆料哦, 哈哈!
文森特-多诺菲奥:“我们一次合作的电影是《牛顿小子》,那时候我们都很年轻。当时剧组里就我和他两个喜欢搞怪的,所以就自然而然成为了好友。当时我们住同一个酒店,基本上整个拍摄季我们都总在一起。后来呢,我们经常会在同样一个剧里试镜,他们总是会要求两位主演在戏外就已经是好友了。因为我们的性格合得来,每次拍摄就需要一个小时的对镜就好了。对于我来说印象最深的就是 这个。因为每次拍摄剧组都要拖延很长时间,所以当有好友在身边对镜,时间总是会过得很快。”
Meiling:Do you have any favorite moments on Magnificent Seven?
Vincent: Hmm. I have to think about the ones I am allowed to talk about. We were writing a couple of things together on the set of Magnificent Seven, so we spent a lot of time in our trailers, we also wrote some stuff that is in the movie, a little bit here and there, hanging out in his trailer, figuring stuff out for stories, I would remember that the most.
金美翎:“在拍摄《豪勇七蛟龙》时,令你印象最深刻的是哪个环节?”
哈哈,有些事情我还不敢透漏呢。我和伊桑总是会在剧组的拖车里编剧,编的是《七蛟龙》里的戏份。我们总是会互相鼓励,互相启发,共同编剧。那种激情劲儿是我最喜欢的。”
Meiling: Could you please tell us about the process for selecting different honorees each year?
Eda Davidman: Ethan Hawke is what we call the traditional Renaissance Man, and that is the name of the award. What we look for is, an actor whose whole body of work, encompasses anything from really hard work to beautiful love stories, to aggression to violent, the whole gambit. If you look at Ethan’s body of work, he fits the mode perfectly.
金美翎:“您能跟我们讲下你们筛选获选人的标准吗?”

So the Gene Siskel film center is a part of the school of the Art Institute, and what we are is, the film center of component, gives local filmmakers a voice, and we hold over 30 to 40 film festivals every year, our biggest one is the Black Harvest festival, and what it does is for the African American filmmakers, and people come from all over the world, the filmmakers come in, the artists come in, we talk, we hold discussions, and we have neighborhood nights, so we have been in the communities together to watch different films, and all of our programming is really to get the young people, the people who are just starting out, their step through the door.
